The Lagos State Sports Commission has introduced new measures to attract and sustain investments in the sports sector, as part of efforts to unlock its economic potential and drive structured growth.
The initiative signals a shift from occasional sporting activities to a more organised, investment-driven ecosystem with defined opportunities for entrepreneurs, private investors, and community stakeholders.
Central to the framework is a coordinated plan to map sports assets, standardise engagement processes, and create visibility for investment opportunities. These include joint venture facility development, franchise-based local leagues, and support for startups in sports technology, fitness, media, and analytics.
The Commission also plans to deploy data-driven tools to track participation trends, identify infrastructure gaps, and assess the commercial viability of various sporting disciplines across the state.
Director-General of the Commission, Lekan Fatodu, described the initiative as a strategic move to reposition sports within Lagos’ economic framework.
He said the new measures are designed to transform sports from a recreational activity into a viable economic sector capable of generating jobs and attracting institutional investments.
According to Fatodu, the framework will help de-risk the sector for investors while creating opportunities for sports technology innovators, apparel manufacturers, and franchise operators to expand their businesses in Lagos.
He added that the initiative aligns with the broader vision of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to leverage sports as a tool for youth engagement, enterprise development, and economic growth.
The development underscores Lagos State’s commitment to building a sustainable and investment-friendly sports ecosystem.
