The Lagos Waste Management Authority has partnered with youth-based organisation, EKO 57 Support Group, to mobilise young people across Lagos State in promoting environmental cleanliness and responsible waste management practices.

Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this during a meeting at the Authority’s headquarters in Ijora-Olopa, where he received the group’s leadership, including Adams Kehinde and Remilekun Oshodi.

Gbadegesin explained that the collaboration would strengthen LAWMA’s advocacy and sensitisation campaigns across the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas in the state.

He described LAWMA as a major employer of labour, with over 100,000 youths engaged directly and indirectly within its operational value chain, noting that their energy and creativity are crucial to improving waste management services.

The LAWMA boss emphasised the strategic role of young people in driving environmental awareness and influencing positive behavioural change within communities.

According to him, the Authority remains committed to maintaining a cleaner Lagos and will continue to engage stakeholders, including Community Development Associations and Committees, to boost compliance with waste management regulations.

He expressed optimism that the partnership with the EKO 57 Support Group would deepen grassroots sensitisation and enhance environmental consciousness among residents.

In their remarks, Kehinde and Oshodi commended LAWMA’s efforts, stressing that achieving a cleaner and more sustainable Lagos requires collective responsibility and active youth participation.
