The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has urged personnel of the Nigerian Navy to remain physically and mentally fit in order to effectively respond to evolving security challenges across the country.
Abbas gave the charge at the Nigerian Navy’s first-quarter route march held in Abuja on Saturday.
He was represented at the event by the Director of Manning, Naval Headquarters, Rear Admiral Kolawole Oguntuga, who commended personnel for their endurance and alertness during the exercise.
The Naval Chief said physical fitness and mental resilience remain critical requirements for the effective discharge of the Navy’s constitutional responsibilities.
He noted that the Armed Forces of Nigeria continue to play a key role in sustaining national unity and security, urging personnel not to be distracted by ongoing operational challenges across different theatres.
Abbas stressed that the sacrifices of fallen heroes must not be in vain, adding that sustained training, discipline, and professionalism are essential for operational success.
He described the route march as a continuous fitness requirement rather than a one-off activity, urging personnel to maintain consistent physical readiness.
The Naval Chief also emphasized the importance of maintaining public trust, noting that Nigerians expect professionalism and dedication from the military.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment, alongside other security services, to remain a strong force in safeguarding the nation.
Abbas appreciated stakeholders, including participating agencies, the National Youth Service Corps, and the media, for their support in ensuring the success of the exercise.
