The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged murder of a 38-year-old man and an attempted secret burial of his body in the Akute area of the state.

The suspects, Maureen Okirie (35), Salia Karikari (15), and Jubril Karikari (12), were arrested by operatives of the Ajuwon Division following an anonymous tip-off about suspicious activities in the community on Thursday, April 9, 2026.

According to the police, officers arrived at the scene and reportedly caught one of the suspects attempting to bury a blood-soaked corpse in a shallow grave in an effort to conceal the crime.

The victim, identified as Stanley Okirie, was found with severe head injuries. Preliminary investigations suggest he was allegedly attacked with a wooden pestle, while other suspects, believed to be relatives, were implicated in the killing and attempted cover-up.

The suspected murder weapon has been recovered, and the body has been deposited at the Life Channel Mortuary in Olambe for autopsy.

The suspects are currently in custody and will be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Bode Ojajuni, condemned the act, describing it as cruel, inhumane, and disturbing, especially given the alleged involvement of close family members.

He assured residents of a thorough investigation and warned that anyone found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

The police also urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities, providing emergency contact lines for rapid response.
