The Lagos State Government has intensified efforts to improve teaching and learning outcomes with the flag-off of a three-day training programme on digital pedagogy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for selected secondary school teachers across the state’s education districts and LASTVEB.

The programme, organised by the State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM), was held at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) Hall.

Declaring the workshop open, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Tolani Ali-Balogun, said the training on digital pedagogy and artificial intelligence is timely, noting that the education sector is rapidly evolving due to technological advancement.

He urged teachers to integrate digital tools, AI, and problem-solving techniques into their teaching methods to remain effective in the modern classroom, adding that education must continue to align with the state’s THEMES Plus Agenda.

Ali-Balogun also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising education through continuous capacity-building programmes aimed at improving teacher competence and learning outcomes.

In her remarks, the Chairman of TESCOM, Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, described the training as a shift in teaching mindset rather than just the use of digital tools.

She said the programme is designed to move educators from teacher-centred instruction to learner-centred engagement, where students actively participate in the learning process.

Peregrino encouraged participants to cascade the knowledge gained to colleagues and students, stressing that teachers remain central to the learning process and that Artificial Intelligence should serve as a support system rather than a replacement.

She also advised teachers to apply ethical standards, including responsible use of technology and data privacy, in their practice.

The workshop, themed “Digital Pedagogy and Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Teachers on GLs 15–17,” is expected to conclude on Friday with the presentation of a communiqué.
