The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to industrial stability while urging labour union leaders and stakeholders to strengthen their professional competencies in response to evolving global workforce demands.

The Honourable Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Afolabi Ayantayo, made the call during the opening ceremony of a two-day training programme held at the NUT Pavilion, Alausa.

The workshop, themed “Sustaining a Cordial and Harmonious Industrial Relations in the New World of Work,” was designed to bridge the gap between traditional labour practices and modern workplace realities shaped by automation and digital transformation.

Ayantayo said the future of work is already here, driven by rapid technological advancement, remote work systems, and the need for continuous skill acquisition.

He stressed that for Lagos State to sustain its development trajectory, labour unions must embrace collaboration rather than adversarial engagement, noting that industrial stability remains critical to economic growth.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Olubusola Abidakun, described the training as timely, adding that globalisation and economic shifts require both employers and employees to adopt greater flexibility and adaptability.

She urged participants to apply the knowledge gained to promote workforce stability and improve industrial relations across the state.

Speaking on behalf of organised labour, the Chairman of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), Lagos State Chapter, Abiodun Aladetan, commended the state government’s approach to industrial relations, describing Lagos as a benchmark for fostering dialogue between government and labour stakeholders.
