In a heartwarming move to support girls’ education and dignity, the First Lady of Nigeria, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, has donated 10,000 disposable sanitary pads to schoolgirls in Kogi State. The donation took place in Lokoja during the launch of her “Flow With Confidence” initiative under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI).
Speaking at the event, Mrs. Tinubu, represented by Sefinat Ododo, the wife of Kogi State Governor, highlighted that the program will eventually provide 370,000 sanitary pads to girls in rural communities across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
“No girl should have to choose between her dignity and her education,” Mrs. Tinubu said, emphasizing that the RHI has invested N2.55 billion in local production of sanitary pads to ensure sustained distribution.
Officials at the event praised the initiative. Dr. Grace Afolabi of the Federal Ministry of Health urged parents to educate their children about menstrual hygiene, while Mr. Wemi Jones, Kogi’s Commissioner for Education, called the program a movement to restore dignity, build confidence, and ensure no girl is left behind due to menstruation.
The program also received commendation from Mr. Tijani Oricha, State Coordinator of the AGILE Project, who highlighted its role in promoting dignity, inclusion, and uninterrupted education for every girl child. Ms. Goodnews Shiloba, Head Girl of GYB Model Science Secondary School, spoke for the students, expressing heartfelt gratitude for the support.
Through this initiative, the First Lady is making tangible steps toward empowering the girl child, ensuring that girls in Nigeria can stay in school and thrive without barriers related to menstrual health.
