The Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC), popularly known as KAI, has urged residents to maintain environmentally responsible practices during and after the Easter celebration.

In a statement issued by the Corps Marshal, Major Olaniyi Olatunbosun Cole (Rtd), the agency noted that the resurrection of Jesus Christ holds significant meaning for Christians globally, adding that Lagosians must reflect the values of the season by keeping their environment clean.

He advised residents to ensure proper waste disposal, avoid street trading, open defecation and urination, and comply with monthly environmental sanitation exercises. He also stressed the importance of obtaining valid waste collection contracts and engaging approved private sector operators for refuse disposal.

Cole warned traders against displaying goods on road setbacks, lay-bys, medians, verges and kerbs, noting that such practices contribute to traffic congestion and endanger pedestrians.

He further cautioned property owners to comply with waste management regulations, stating that defaulters risk sanctions under the law.

The Corps Marshal also encouraged residents to observe sanitation rules voluntarily and urged commuters to prioritise safety by using pedestrian bridges when crossing major roads in the state.
