The Lagos State Government has pledged its support for a motorbike ride from London to Lagos aimed at raising awareness and funds to eradicate polio under the “End Polio Now” campaign.

The Honourable Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, gave the assurance while receiving Rotarian Olatunji Emmanuel Okedeyi and the project director, Tolu Daramola, during a courtesy visit to his office.

Omotoso described polio as a dangerous disease that requires collective global action, commending the initiative as a bold and commendable effort to drive awareness across multiple countries. He praised the courage and commitment of the rider, noting that such advocacy is vital in the fight against the disease.

Speaking on the project, Okedeyi said the journey is designed to promote the “End Polio Now” campaign and raise at least £100,000 to support eradication efforts.

The road trip is scheduled to begin in Kent, London, passing through France, Spain, Morocco, Mauritania, Guinea, Senegal, Ghana, Togo and the Benin Republic before arriving in Nigeria. Along the route, the rider will engage Rotary Clubs in various countries to mobilise support and donations.

On arrival in Nigeria, Okedeyi, who is the President-elect of the Rotary Club of Mushin, will mark his investiture with a medical outreach programme in Mushin Local Government Area on July 17, 2026. The outreach, in partnership with over 50 volunteers, will provide free medical services including optical, dental and physiotherapy care to residents.

Medical supplies valued at $100,000 are expected to be provided by donors to support the outreach programme.
