The Lagos State Police Command has ordered the immediate removal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit from all traffic control and enforcement activities across the state.
Police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the development in a statement issued on Tuesday, explaining that the move is aimed at improving coordination in traffic management while promoting professionalism and accountability among enforcement agencies.
According to the command, the directive strictly applies to traffic-related duties, noting that the task force will continue to carry out its other operational responsibilities without interruption.
“The Lagos State Police Command wishes to inform the public that the Commissioner of Police, Fatai Tijani, has approved the immediate and total withdrawal of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation and Special Offences Unit from traffic control and enforcement of traffic violations across the state,” the statement said.
It added that the decision forms part of broader efforts to ensure clarity in roles and improve service delivery within the state’s traffic management system.
The police further clarified that the unit is not the only task force operating in Lagos, urging residents and motorists to properly identify officials and agencies before making complaints, especially on traffic-related matters.
