Fidelity Bank Plc has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction to distribute 2,000 food packs to vulnerable households in Abuja.

The intervention was carried out through the bank's Food Bank programme as part of activities marking the 2026 International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank, Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, represented by the bank's Divisional Head of Public Sector, Richard Madiebo, said the initiative was part of the bank's efforts to address hunger, malnutrition and economic vulnerability.

She explained that the bank's community development programmes also include entrepreneurship support and empowerment initiatives aimed at helping individuals and families achieve economic independence.

Onyeali-Ikpe said the bank launched its Food Bank programme in April 2023 and had distributed more than 300,000 food packs across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones.

She added that Fidelity Bank had maintained its commitment to community development for about three decades.

Also speaking, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro, commended the bank's intervention and called for stronger collaboration between government and private sector organisations to tackle poverty.

Doro said 63 per cent of Nigeria's population lived in multidimensional poverty, noting that poverty limits economic participation and restricts businesses' access to potential customers and workers.

He urged stakeholders to ensure that poverty reduction programmes translate into measurable and sustainable improvements in the living conditions of vulnerable Nigerians.

The minister said partnerships with private organisations remained important in expanding economic opportunities and bringing more citizens into productive activities.
