Debit and credit cards offer different ways for consumers to make payments, with debit cards drawing directly from available bank funds, while credit cards provide access to an approved borrowing facility that must be repaid.

A debit card may be suitable for routine expenses such as groceries, fuel, utility bills, subscriptions and meals, as payments are deducted directly from the linked bank account.

Credit cards, on the other hand, can provide financial flexibility for planned expenses, including travel, where payment is required before expected funds become available. However, users are advised to consider interest rates, fees, repayment dates and minimum payment requirements before using the facility.

Fidelity Bank offers debit card options, including Naira and Dollar cards, as well as premium products such as the Visa Signature Debit Card and Visa Infinite Credit Card.

The bank says benefits associated with its Visa Infinite Credit Card include complimentary access to more than eight hundred and fifty LoungeKey lounges for the cardholder and one guest per visit, concierge services, benefits at more than nine hundred hotels, multi-trip travel insurance and discounted fast-track services at more than three hundred and eighty international airports.

Consumers are advised to choose between debit and credit cards based on their spending habits, financial position and repayment capacity, while reviewing applicable charges, transaction limits and benefit terms before applying for or using a card.
