Lagos State Model Senior College, Meiran, has emerged the best among Lagos State public schools and first runner-up overall at the Kids Innovation Africa Challenge organised by Destiny Trust International in Lagos.

The school’s team of students, comprising Fanika Faith, Giwa Olaosebikan and Olaoye Rhoda, earned the recognition with an innovative project tagged “SmartFarm”, an integrated agricultural system designed to use sensor technology to improve food production and support safer farming practices.

The project was further enhanced with seven robotic designs, showcasing the students’ application of technology, creativity and problem-solving skills to address challenges in sustainable food production.

The competition, held at the Landmark Event Centre, Lekki, brought together more than 1,500 children, partners, mentors and judges from across the country. It was designed to encourage young people to develop innovative solutions to challenges in education, environmental sustainability and food production.

Reacting to the achievement, the Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary of Education District I, Dr. Idowu Olufunke Oyetola, congratulated the students, the Principal of the school, Mr. Ajayi Temitope, and the project coach, Mr. Moses Adewale.

Oyetola commended the students for their creativity, teamwork and commitment to excellence, urging them to sustain their interest in innovation and continue developing solutions to real-world challenges.

The achievement highlights the growing use of technology and innovation in learning among students in Lagos public schools.
