The Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Mr. Adebayo Orunsolu, has urged members of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination Award Committee to ensure fairness, objectivity and equity in determining the grade boundaries for candidates.

Orunsolu gave the charge at the 2026 BECE Award Meeting held at the Lagos State Examinations Board, where education stakeholders reviewed candidates’ performances and deliberated on appropriate benchmarks for each subject.

He said the committee’s decisions would affect the educational progression of thousands of young learners across the state, urging members to allow candidates’ actual performances, alongside established educational standards, to guide the process.

The Director-General of the Office of Education Quality Assurance, Dr. Sulaimon Ogunmuyiwa, said the committee would consider each subject individually, analyse candidates’ performances and pass rates, and determine appropriate grade boundaries.

Also speaking, the Director of Basic Education Services, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ruth Oyedele, said the committee would examine the distribution of scores, including the highest and lowest performances, to ensure consistency and fairness in determining the benchmarks.

The exercise is part of the Lagos State Government’s efforts to strengthen the credibility and transparency of its examination and assessment processes while ensuring that candidates’ performances are appropriately recognised.
