The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has cleared two truck incidents that disrupted vehicular movement along Ikorodu Road and the National-Ashade corridor.
The first incident occurred on September 20 when a loaded mixer truck belonging to Ecocrete Construction Company overturned onto the Bus Rapid Transit corridor at Palmgrove inward Obanikoro. LASEMA said the incident was linked to reckless driving and overspeeding, while no casualty was recorded.
In a separate incident later that night, a MACK truck carrying two 20-foot containers broke down while attempting a U-turn at National-Ashade after a tyre burst. The truck tilted and blocked about 80 per cent of the roadway, posing a risk to other road users.
LASEMA and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority deployed response teams, secured the areas and diverted traffic while recovery operations were carried out. The containers were removed using heavy-duty equipment, while the MACK truck was towed to the LASTMA yard in Oshodi.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, commended the response teams and collaborating agencies for their swift intervention, saying the operations helped prevent gridlock and possible secondary accidents.
He urged articulated vehicle and heavy-duty truck operators to maintain their vehicles properly, obey speed limits and comply with traffic regulations. The agency also advised residents to report emergencies through the 767 or 112 toll-free lines.
