The Benin-Asaba Expressway Concession Company Limited (BAECC) has appointed public-private partnership and infrastructure expert, Dr Emmanuel Onwodi, as its Chief Operating Officer.

The company said the appointment strengthens its leadership team as it advances the development and management of the Benin-Asaba Expressway, a key transport corridor linking Edo and Delta states.

Onwodi brings more than 25 years of experience in infrastructure development, concession management, project finance, risk management, transport and logistics. A former director-level official at the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC), he previously held responsibilities in transport infrastructure, planning, research, statistics and special projects.

As COO, he will oversee operational execution of the expressway concession, support project delivery, coordinate stakeholders and drive the company's long-term objectives. His responsibilities will also include promoting operational efficiency, strengthening concession management and enhancing collaboration among government agencies, investors, contractors, lenders and host communities.

BAECC said Onwodi's expertise in infrastructure finance, public-private partnerships and major transport projects would support the successful delivery of the Benin-Asaba Expressway. The company added that his appointment comes at a critical stage of the project, where effective stakeholder engagement and operational coordination remain essential.

The Benin-Asaba Expressway is being developed under a Public-Private Partnership arrangement and serves as a major route for the movement of people and goods across southern Nigeria.
