The Lagos State Parking Authority, LASPA, says it will commence enforcement against parking fee defaulters across the state by the end of September 2026.
LASPA General Manager, Adebisi Adelabu, disclosed this at a press conference in Lagos, saying the enforcement follows months of public awareness campaigns and notices issued to affected businesses and vehicle owners.
Adelabu said the authority intensified its awareness efforts to ensure that businesses and motorists cannot claim ignorance of their parking obligations.
She urged defaulters to settle outstanding fees before enforcement begins, stressing that enforcement remains LASPA’s last resort.
According to her, LASPA officials will work with the police during the exercise, while body cameras will be deployed to promote transparency and provide accurate records of encounters with defaulters.
Possible enforcement measures include vehicle clamping, towing and, where necessary, closure of defaulting businesses in line with due legal process.
Adelabu said LASPA recorded between 400 million and 500 million naira in parking related debts from defaulters last year.
She explained that parking fees are paid annually because parking spaces may change as the government expands or reconstructs roads.
The LASPA boss also announced plans to expand on street parking across Lagos, with licensed local operators managing designated areas under the authority’s supervision.
She said motorists would be encouraged to make cashless payments through QR codes, cards and other electronic channels, while a LASPA application is expected to help motorists identify available parking spaces.
Adelabu stressed that the parking regulation is not primarily aimed at revenue generation but at creating order and addressing Lagos’ growing transportation and parking challenges.
Meanwhile, LASPA is set to embark on an awareness roadshow in Ikorodu to educate businesses and vehicle owners on the parking regulations ahead of the enforcement exercise.
