The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has launched a Zero Rated Access to Educational Platforms Initiative aimed at reducing the cost of internet access for students and other learners across Nigeria.
The initiative, developed in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education, will provide zero rated access to approved digital education platforms and learning resources.
The NCC said the programme is designed to remove data costs as a major barrier to digital learning and enable more Nigerian students to access educational content online.
The launch brought together stakeholders from government, academia, the telecommunications and education sectors, as well as student representatives.
Discussions at the event focused on strengthening collaboration between the communications and education sectors to expand access to digital learning and ensure the initiative delivers sustainable benefits to learners.
A panel session also examined the initiative’s vision, implementation strategy and potential impact on students and other users of digital educational resources.
The NCC said the initiative represents another step towards making digital education more inclusive and accessible as Nigeria continues to expand the use of technology in the education sector.
