Dotun Oladipo: A Journalist, Friend and Champion of Ethical Journalism

The late Dotun Oladipo has been remembered as a distinguished journalist, media entrepreneur and advocate of ethical journalism whose impact extended beyond his professional achievements.

In a tribute, immediate Past President of the Association of Corporate Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB), Rasheed Bolarinwa, described Oladipo as a friend, ally, confidant and brother whose commitment to responsible journalism remained unwavering.

Bolarinwa said his relationship with Oladipo dated back to their days as colleagues at The Punch newspapers in the late 1990s, describing him as a calm and principled journalist committed to truth, responsibility and public interest.

Oladipo later founded The EagleOnline and served as President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), where he advocated professionalism and stronger collaboration between the media and corporate organisations.

Bolarinwa recalled that their professional relationship grew through their respective leadership roles in ACAMB and GOCOP, particularly in addressing misinformation and tensions involving the banking industry and the media.

He described Oladipo as a voice of reason who often helped resolve media-related disputes and promoted understanding between journalists and corporate institutions.

Bolarinwa also recalled visiting Oladipo at The EagleOnline office in Ogba and celebrating his 50th birthday with him in Lagos, describing the late journalist as a warm host, devoted family man and generous adviser.

He said Oladipo consistently supported journalists and media organisations, while encouraging corporate bodies to maintain relationships with credible media platforms.

Bolarinwa extended his condolences to Oladipo’s wife and children, his brother Tunde, the GOCOP family and the wider Nigerian media community.

He said Oladipo’s legacy of friendship, service, professionalism and integrity would continue to inspire those who knew him.
