Education District VI has successfully organised its Annual Sports Festival, a flagship event in the district’s academic calendar, held under the theme “Building Champions Through Sports.”
In her welcome address, the Tutor General/Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, described the festival as a vibrant reminder that excellence extends beyond classroom learning. She noted that the idea of “champions” goes beyond winning medals, emphasizing that sports play a vital role in shaping students’ resilience, discipline, teamwork, and integrity.
Mrs. Yusuff encouraged participants to see the event as an opportunity for personal growth, stating that their involvement reflects the foundation for leadership and responsibility. “By participating today, you are doing more than competing; you are building the character required to lead the Lagos of tomorrow,” she said.
The event also featured remarks from the Commander of the 9th Brigade, Nigerian Army, Ikeja, Brigadier General A. O. Owolabi, who highlighted the importance of sports in the holistic development of children. He explained that sporting activities help instil discipline, respect for rules, and collaboration—values that are also essential within the Armed Forces.
Brigadier General Owolabi commended the district, teachers, and parents for their dedication to nurturing both the physical and moral development of students. He also urged participants to compete fairly, respect one another, and fully enjoy the spirit of the festival.
The Annual Sports Festival continues to serve as a platform for promoting unity, character development, and excellence among students, reinforcing Education District VI’s commitment to producing well-rounded individuals prepared for future challenges.
