Union Bank of Nigeria has attained certification under the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, PCI DSS, version 4.0.1, reaffirming its commitment to protecting customers’ payment card information.

The certification, which took effect on August 11, 2026, is a global standard for safeguarding payment card data stored, processed or transmitted by financial institutions.

The assessment covered key areas of the bank’s operations, including network infrastructure, card issuance, ATM and POS transactions, payment processing, reconciliation, settlement, chargeback and dispute resolution.

Union Bank was assessed and certified in the Service Provider category following a year-long engagement involving quarterly assessments and collaboration with its departmental and business heads, as well as security firm, Digital Encode.

The final independent audit was conducted by CyberCube, an accredited Qualified Security Assessor.

Speaking on the development, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Union Bank, Yetunde B. Oni, said the certification reaffirms that the bank’s payment systems and processes meet rigorous global security standards.

She said the achievement reflects the commitment of the bank’s employees to protecting customer information and strengthening trust.

The renewal also ensures that Union Bank maintains uninterrupted PCI DSS certification, in line with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s requirement for banks to sustain continuous compliance.
