The Lagos State Government has presented Land Allocation Letters to 98 villages within Ito-Omu, Sangotedo and other communities in the Ibeju-Lekki axis as part of efforts to promote orderly and sustainable development in the rapidly growing corridor.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu presented the allocation letters to community leaders during a ceremony held at the Ito-Omu Link Bridge in Sangotedo, Lagos.
The allocation exercise followed the acquisition of 16,300 hectares of land by the Lagos State Government through the New Towns Development Authority (NTDA) for the implementation of housing and other developmental projects aimed at meeting the needs of residents.
Speaking at the event, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the initiative was designed to ensure that the growth of Ito-Omu and neighbouring communities remains planned, purposeful and people-centred.
He stressed that the future of Lagos must be driven by deliberate planning, adequate infrastructure, secure communities and opportunities that enable residents and businesses to thrive.
According to the Governor, the development plan for Ito-Omu and adjoining communities provides a framework for integrating residential, commercial, industrial, institutional and recreational land uses while ensuring efficient infrastructure delivery and improved quality of life.
Sanwo-Olu said the initiative aligns with his administration’s THEMES+ Agenda and its vision of building a more inclusive, resilient, sustainable and globally competitive Lagos.
He assured residents that the government would continue to provide critical infrastructure, including improved road networks, drainage systems and social amenities, while plans are underway for the construction of the Ito-Omu Waterfront Jetty to enhance connectivity and ease movement within the area.
The Governor also commended the Lands Bureau, the New Towns Development Authority, the Office of the State Surveyor-General, consulting firms and other stakeholders for their roles in advancing the project.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Lands Bureau, Mr. Kamar Olowosago, thanked the affected communities for supporting government development initiatives, noting that the project would open up the area and stimulate socio-economic growth.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary communities, the Onibeju of Ibeju-Lekki, Oba Razak Olasunkanmi, urged the government to ensure that the proposed New Town incorporates both residential and commercial developments. He also appealed for the establishment of a technical college in the Ibeju-Lekki area to provide educational opportunities for young people.
The beneficiary communities include Orofun, Agadangba, Oko-Keji, Okun-Abe, Abegede, Idi-Ori, Anikansogbo, Anwoye Oke, Anwoye Ebute, Ladaba Ebute, Idi Afon, Oguntedo, Megun, Isan, Ipesu, Arapagi Lotu, Ibon, Ito-Omu, Ladaba, Dongo, Oregun, Ladega and Ladaba Oke-Odo, among others.
