Leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, has provided food assistance to more than 1,000 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State through its Fidelity Food Bank Initiative.

The humanitarian intervention, carried out in partnership with the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Office and supported by the ABBASID Charity Foundation, saw the distribution of essential food items including rice, noodles and tomatoes to displaced families living in transit camps across the area.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, Fidelity Bank’s Divisional Head, Brand and Communications, Dr. Meksley Nwagboh, said the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative was established to support vulnerable groups and help address food insecurity across Nigeria.

According to him, the bank remains committed to implementing social impact programmes that improve the welfare of underserved communities, particularly those affected by economic hardship and displacement.

The intervention forms part of Fidelity Bank’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts aimed at providing critical support to vulnerable populations and contributing to national initiatives focused on reducing hunger.

Project Coordinator of the Plateau State Sustainable Development Goals Office, Mrs. Nanbam Danjuma-Lot, described the intervention as timely, noting that many families displaced by attacks in recent years continue to face significant challenges.

She commended the partnership between Fidelity Bank, humanitarian organisations and the state government, saying it reflects a shared commitment to supporting affected communities and helping them rebuild their lives.

Founder of the ABBASID Charity Foundation, Mrs. Hauwa Abbas, also highlighted the importance of collaboration in tackling food insecurity, revealing that the organisation’s partnership with Fidelity Bank has enabled food support to reach dozens of vulnerable communities across Nigeria.

Responding on behalf of beneficiaries, the Village Head of Changal Community, Mr. Titus Abednago, expressed gratitude to Fidelity Bank, the Plateau State Government and development partners for the assistance.

He said the intervention had brought relief and hope to many families while calling for sustained efforts to restore peace and enable displaced residents to return to their farms and rebuild their livelihoods.

The Fidelity Food Bank Initiative has become one of the bank’s flagship social investment programmes, providing food support to vulnerable communities across the country as part of its broader commitment to community development and social inclusion.
