The Lagos State Government has strengthened its drive towards technology-driven education with the distribution of tablet devices to junior secondary schools under the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) Programme.
The presentation, held at the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in Alausa, Ikeja, is part of efforts to improve education management and promote evidence-based decision-making across schools in the state.
BESDA is a collaborative initiative involving the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Education and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), aimed at enhancing the delivery of quality education in participating states.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Director of Project Planning and Research, Mr. Opeyemi Martins, announced that all junior secondary schools participating in the programme would receive 30 gigabytes of monthly data from Airtel to support internet access and improve teaching and learning activities.
Also speaking, the Director of Basic Education Services, Mrs. Toyin Oyedele, reminded school administrators that the tablets remain government property and should be properly managed and handed over to successors whenever transfers occur.
Stakeholders described the initiative as a major step in the digital transformation of Lagos’ education sector, noting that the devices will support data collection, monitoring, reporting and informed planning to improve learning outcomes and educational management.
In the first phase of the rollout, 160 tablet devices were distributed to designated junior secondary schools across the state. The programme is expected to expand to all junior secondary schools in Lagos, providing wider access to digital tools that enhance school administration and planning.
The Lagos State Government said the initiative reflects its commitment, alongside the World Bank, the Federal Ministry of Education and UBEC, to leveraging technology to strengthen the education system, improve accountability and support data-driven policy formulation.
