Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has urged graduates of Babcock University to embrace faith, resilience, continuous learning and innovation as they prepare to begin a new phase of their lives.
The Governor gave the charge while delivering the convocation lecture at the university’s 2026 Undergraduate Convocation Ceremony held in Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State.
Speaking on the theme, “Breaking New Ground: Faith, Grit and the Work of New Beginnings,” Sanwo-Olu described the graduating NOVA Class of 2026 as a generation stepping into a world filled with both opportunities and uncertainties.
He encouraged the graduates not to fear failure, stressing that setbacks should be viewed as learning experiences that build resilience and prepare individuals for greater opportunities.
Drawing from his experience as Governor of Lagos State, Sanwo-Olu reflected on the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the EndSARS protests, noting that leaders do not always choose the challenges they face but must determine how best to respond and adapt.
The Governor emphasized that breaking new ground requires patience, discipline, evidence-based decision-making and the courage to challenge the status quo. He also advised young innovators seeking government support to develop practical solutions, test their ideas through pilot projects and provide measurable evidence of their impact.
In recognition of his contributions to governance and public service, Governor Sanwo-Olu received a Leadership and Service Award for outstanding performance and excellence in Lagos State.
