The Lagos State Resilience Office (LASRO), in partnership with the Resilient Cities Network and ARUP, has intensified efforts to strengthen community resilience across Lagos through an institutional workshop focused on enhancing collaboration among key stakeholders and advancing resilience initiatives.

The workshop, themed “Enabling Community Resilience,” brought together representatives from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), development partners, academia and civil society organisations to review progress under the Community Resilience Programme, validate findings and identify priority actions for building resilient communities.

Representing the Chief Resilience Officer of Lagos State, Dr. Folayinka Dania, Assistant Director of Town Planning, Tpl. Olufemi Dada, said the workshop was designed to promote stakeholder engagement and encourage the sharing of sectoral experiences that can strengthen resilience planning and implementation across the state.

Using the Ajegunle-Ikorodu community as a case study, participants assessed the implementation of the Community Resilience Action Plan, reviewed achievements recorded so far and explored opportunities to enhance resilience interventions through stronger partnerships and strategic investments.

Speaking during the session, the Lead for the Resilient Cities Network, Ms. Fitsum Gelaye, said the organisation’s long-standing partnership with LASRO continues to provide a strong platform for advancing resilience planning and implementation in Lagos State.

Urban Planner at ARUP, Mr. Jose Aitumadu, led a feedback session that allowed participating MDAs to provide updates on resilience projects and interventions being implemented within the Ajegunle-Ikorodu community.

The interactive discussions also enabled stakeholders to identify implementation gaps, address sector-specific challenges and explore collaborative approaches to strengthening community resilience.

The workshop concluded with a renewed commitment by LASRO, the Resilient Cities Network and participating stakeholders to deepen institutional collaboration and promote evidence-based decision-making aimed at improving resilience across Lagos communities.

Stakeholders noted that the engagement reinforces a shared vision of building communities that are better equipped to anticipate, withstand and recover from social, economic and environmental challenges associated with rapid urbanisation and climate change.
