The Lagos State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening inclusive education and ensuring that every child, regardless of ability, has access to quality education and opportunities to reach their full potential.
The commitment was highlighted during a visit by a student of Sango Senior Secondary (Inclusive) School, Sango-Ota, Michael Oluwadamilare, who presented a portrait of the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mrs. Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Alausa, Ikeja.
The artwork, which bore a striking resemblance to the Permanent Secretary, drew admiration from officials and visitors alike, showcasing the student's exceptional artistic talent and creativity.
Speaking during the presentation, Mrs. Dokunmu-Adegbite commended Michael for the outstanding work and praised the teachers and management of the school for creating an environment that nurtures the talents and abilities of learners with disabilities.
She noted that the presentation was a powerful reminder that disability does not define a person's potential, stressing that with the right support, encouragement and opportunities, learners with disabilities can excel and make meaningful contributions to society.
The Permanent Secretary reiterated that the Lagos State Government remains committed to creating opportunities that enable every child to discover and develop their unique gifts, regardless of their physical, sensory or learning challenges.
According to her, inclusive education remains a key component of the state's vision to ensure that no child is left behind and that all learners receive the support required to succeed academically and socially.
She added that the inspiring gesture by the student demonstrates the transformative impact of inclusive education and reinforces the belief that when children are given equal opportunities, they can achieve extraordinary results.
The State Government, she said, will continue to invest in policies and programmes that promote inclusive learning and empower every child to become a productive and valued member of society.
Members of the visiting delegation included the Principal of Sango Senior Secondary School (Inclusive), Mrs. Elizabeth Balogun; Fine Art Teacher, Mr. Akinola Oluwatobi; and School Interpreter, Mrs. Morufat Soyemi.
