Residents across Badagry Division turned out in large numbers for a two-day community health outreach organised by Lagos State Health District V (LHDV) in collaboration with the Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), as part of efforts to improve access to quality healthcare and achieve Universal Health Coverage.
The outreach, supported by the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI) and DIDE, was held on July 15 and 16, 2026, at three locations across the division, including Sejeh in Ajara Topa, Ojogun in Olorunda Local Council Development Area, and Gaingbo in Badagry West LCDA.
Residents received a range of free healthcare services, including tuberculosis screening, eye and dental examinations, medical consultations, counselling and health education. The programme also facilitated 2,500 free enrolments into the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme.
Speaking during the outreach, the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Health District V, Dr. Oladapo Asiyanbi, described the turnout as highly encouraging and a reflection of growing public confidence in government healthcare initiatives.
He said the success of the programme underscored the Lagos State Government’s commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare under the T.H.E.M.E.S.+ Agenda, noting that collaboration among government agencies, healthcare workers, community leaders and development partners contributed significantly to the exercise.
Dr. Asiyanbi emphasised that all services provided during the outreach were free and urged residents to prioritise regular medical check-ups, warning that diseases such as tuberculosis and hypertension often develop without obvious symptoms in their early stages.
He reaffirmed the commitment of Health District V to sustaining community-based interventions aimed at improving health outcomes and ensuring that quality healthcare reaches all residents.
Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Health Management Agency, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, encouraged residents to enrol in the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme, describing it as a key initiative designed to provide affordable and accessible healthcare for Lagos residents.
She explained that beneficiaries enjoy access to comprehensive healthcare services, including telemedicine consultations that allow enrollees to speak with qualified doctors in English, Yoruba or Pidgin and obtain medical advice and prescriptions remotely.
According to her, the health insurance scheme helps reduce the financial burden of medical care and protects residents from high out-of-pocket healthcare expenses.
Dr. Zamba expressed satisfaction with the turnout recorded during the exercise, describing it as evidence of increasing public trust in the Ilera Eko scheme and the state’s healthcare programmes.
At the Badagry Local Government outreach centre, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, LHDV and LASHMA for bringing healthcare services directly to residents.
He urged residents to avoid self-medication and seek proper medical diagnosis and treatment, noting that seemingly minor symptoms could indicate serious health conditions if left untreated.
The Chairmen of Badagry West LCDA and Olorunda LCDA, Hon. Rauf Ibrahim Yemaren and Hon. Ajose Peter Kumayon, also attended the outreach activities in their respective communities and encouraged residents to take advantage of the free services and enrol in the Ilera Eko Health Insurance Scheme.
The outreach highlighted the Lagos State Government’s continued commitment to strengthening primary healthcare services, promoting disease prevention, expanding health insurance coverage and bringing quality healthcare closer to communities across the state.
