The Lagos State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has presented appointment letters to 992 newly recruited teachers as part of efforts to strengthen staffing levels in public secondary schools across the state.

The recruitment exercise is aimed at addressing teacher shortages, particularly in science and technical subjects, while improving the quality of teaching and learning in public schools.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, TESCOM Chairman, Mrs. Victoria Mopelola Peregrino, congratulated the successful applicants and urged them to uphold the ethics and values of the teaching profession.

She described the recruitment exercise as a continuous process designed to ensure that public secondary schools are adequately staffed with qualified teachers and instructors.

According to Peregrino, Lagos State's growing population requires sustained investment in education and regular replacement of retired or exited teachers to prevent overcrowded classrooms and maintain educational standards.

She encouraged the new teachers to understand the strengths and challenges of their students, embrace creativity and innovation in teaching, and commit to continuous professional development.

The TESCOM chairman also emphasised the importance of integrating technology into classroom instruction and adopting appropriate, non-violent disciplinary measures.

In their separate remarks, TESCOM Board Member representing Ikeja Division, Abiodun Bamgboye, and the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Olawale Ojikutu, warned the teachers against bullying, sexual harassment and other forms of misconduct, stressing that the Lagos State Government maintains a zero-tolerance policy on such issues.

They urged the teachers to remain professional, dedicated and punctual in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking on behalf of the newly recruited teachers, Orire Ajayi Samuel expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Government for the opportunity and pledged that the teachers would serve diligently and uphold the values expected of them.

The newly recruited teachers will be deployed to public secondary schools across the six education districts of Lagos State after completing the necessary documentation process.
