Leading financial institution, Fidelity Bank Plc, has empowered 1,950 beneficiaries in Anambra State through a wide-ranging social intervention programme aimed at supporting women entrepreneurs, vulnerable households, and schoolchildren.
The initiative, held in Awka under the 2026 Fidelity Empowerment Programme, saw the distribution of 200 sewing and grinding machines to women, N25 million in seed capital support, 1,500 food packs to vulnerable families, and 250 solar-powered school bags to pupils.
The programme was implemented in partnership with Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, a non-governmental organisation led by the Wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Dr. Nonye Soludo.
Speaking at the event, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank Plc, Dr. Nneka Onyeali-Ikpe, said the intervention reflects the bank’s commitment to creating opportunities for sustainable growth and improving livelihoods across communities.
She noted that the programme marked the first time the bank’s three flagship social impact initiatives—the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative, Lighting Young Minds Programme, and Give Her Power Initiative—were combined under a single intervention platform, with Anambra State emerging as the first beneficiary.
According to Onyeali-Ikpe, the initiative goes beyond providing material support, focusing instead on equipping individuals with the resources and opportunities needed to improve their lives and contribute to economic development.
She explained that the Fidelity Food Bank Initiative continues to support vulnerable households across Nigeria, particularly amid prevailing economic challenges, while the Lighting Young Minds Programme is designed to improve learning outcomes through the provision of solar-powered school bags that enable children to study after dark.
The Give Her Power Initiative, she added, supports women through vocational tools and financial assistance aimed at promoting entrepreneurship, increasing household income, and enhancing women's participation in economic activities.
In her remarks, Dr. Nonye Soludo commended Fidelity Bank for its commitment to community development and support for vulnerable groups.
She said investing in women, children, and families contributes significantly to building stronger communities and a more prosperous society.
According to her, the intervention demonstrates the important role socially responsible organisations can play in advancing sustainable development and improving the quality of life of citizens.
The Fidelity Empowerment Programme forms part of the bank’s broader corporate social responsibility efforts focused on education, economic empowerment, food security, healthcare, and community development across the country.
Fidelity Bank serves more than 10 million customers through its digital banking channels, network of business offices across Nigeria, and its United Kingdom subsidiary, FidBank UK Limited.
