UNICEF has donated an additional 50 Airtel 5G Connect Routers to the Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education to strengthen digital learning infrastructure in public schools across the state.

The presentation took place at the Ministry’s conference room in Alausa, Ikeja, as part of ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education and equip schools with modern digital learning tools.

The latest donation follows an earlier intervention in which 150 routers were distributed to public primary and secondary schools that met UNICEF’s criteria, particularly schools with functional computing devices but limited internet access.

According to the Ministry, the initiative is aimed at bridging the digital divide and promoting inclusive, technology-driven education in Lagos public schools.

Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, commended UNICEF for its continued partnership and support towards improving education in the state.

He stated that the newly donated routers would be distributed to schools that did not benefit from the first batch to ensure equitable access to digital resources across public schools.

The Commissioner also urged principals and teachers of beneficiary schools to ensure proper use and maintenance of the devices, noting that government continues to invest heavily in improving the education sector.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Abisola Dokunmu-Adegbite, also appreciated Bharti Airtel Limited and UNICEF for their support and consistency in advancing digital education in Lagos State.

The Airtel 5G Connect Routers are designed to provide high-speed internet connectivity for access to online learning platforms, virtual classrooms, educational content, and research tools.

According to the Ministry, the devices are expected to improve teaching and learning experiences while equipping students with digital skills required in today’s technology-driven world.

Representatives of Airtel, principals, and teachers from beneficiary schools attended the presentation, while Airtel officials also assisted with SIM registration and provided guidance on the use and maintenance of the routers.
