The Lagos State Sports Commission says it is strengthening collaboration with the private sector to develop rugby and harness the growing pool of youth talent in Lagos.
Director-General of the commission, Lekan Fatodu, disclosed this at a rugby exhibition match between an African Women All-Star team and the Falcons of Nigeria, held at Alaro City.
He said the commission’s involvement reflects its commitment to promoting mass participation in sports and supporting emerging talents across the state.
Fatodu noted that Lagos has a significant number of young athletes interested in rugby, adding that partnerships with private investors will help provide infrastructure, training and resources needed to grow the sport.
He emphasised that the collaboration is aimed at creating more opportunities for athletes to develop their skills and compete at higher levels.
In the match, the African Women All-Star team, featuring players from Uganda, Ghana, Kenya and Côte d’Ivoire, lost 30–12 to the Falcons of Nigeria.
