The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to improving mobility for residents through a seamless integration of water, rail and road transport systems.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Wale Musa, made this known at the LAGFERRY 2026 management retreat.

Musa, who was represented by the Director of Transport Policy and Coordination, Aderounmu Agbomeji, said the state is prioritising sustainable water transportation as a key strategy to reduce traffic congestion, enhance safety and improve connectivity.

Speaking at the retreat, the Managing Director of LAGFERRY, Abdoulbaq Ladi Balogun, said the agency is leveraging the Lagos State Transport Policy as a roadmap to strengthen efficiency, safety and sustainability in its operations.

He disclosed that plans are underway to introduce Eco Water Taxi services along the Lekki-Epe corridor to ease traffic pressure on that route and improve daily commuting.

Balogun also revealed ongoing efforts to deploy electric-powered boats and expand cargo transportation across key waterways linking Lekki, Apapa, Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry, with the aim of reducing the burden on road networks.

On the operational side, Head of Operations, Amos Semasa, said LAGFERRY has expanded its services to 17 jetties and 27 routes across the state.

He added that intensified safety awareness campaigns are being carried out to boost public confidence, noting that passenger safety remains a top priority despite lingering concerns among some residents.

The retreat, which brings together stakeholders in the water transport sector, is expected to generate actionable strategies to enhance collaboration and drive sustainable growth of water transportation in Lagos State
