The University of Lagos College of Medicine has emphasised the need for stronger research-driven collaboration and innovation to improve health outcomes across Nigeria.

Provost of the College, Ademola Oremosun, made this known during a press briefing at the Idi-Araba campus ahead of the inaugural Scientific Conference of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences.

He said the initiative aligns with the institution’s vision of strengthening clinical science capacity, fostering interdisciplinary partnerships, and developing practical solutions to pressing health challenges.

Dean of the Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, Fatimah Abdulkareem, described the conference as a milestone in the faculty’s academic development, noting that it is the first of its kind.

She explained that the conference is designed to showcase ongoing research, encourage young scientists, and deepen collaboration between academia and the healthcare industry.

Chairman of the Planning Committee, Titi Adeyemo, said the event will bring together scholars, clinicians, and researchers to explore innovative approaches to diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention.

Stakeholders at the briefing also called for stronger support from policymakers, health professionals, and the media, stressing that effective communication is essential to bridging the gap between research and public understanding.
