The Lagos State Government has reiterated its commitment to unlocking the commercial value of sports as a strategic driver of investment and economic engagement in the state.

Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Lekan Fatodu, made this known at a book presentation titled “Nigeria Year Sport Book,” held at his office in the Teslim Balogun Stadium complex.

Fatodu said the Commission is focused not only on sports management and competitions but also on developing the broader business ecosystem surrounding sports, including hospitality, SMEs, and related enterprises.

According to him, sports in Lagos has significant untapped value chains that can attract investors and create opportunities for entrepreneurs and young business owners.

He stressed the need to clearly separate primary sports investments from secondary opportunities that exist within the sector, adding that structured engagement would help stimulate investor confidence.

Fatodu noted that sports must be viewed as a major economic platform capable of generating employment and stimulating multiple sectors of the economy.

He also commended the Lagos State Sports Writers Association for documenting sporting history through the publication, describing it as vital in preserving the legacy of sports development in the country.

The DG supported the launch of the book with ₦250,000, further demonstrating the Commission’s backing for sports documentation and development initiatives.

In response, Acting Chairman of the Lagos State Sports Writers Association, Aaron Akerejola, praised the leadership of the Commission for its support and commitment to sports development in Lagos.

He added that the next edition of the publication will be available in digital format and will highlight upcoming sporting events, including the Lagos-hosted Intermediate Games scheduled for later in the year.
